Mother's day : 3rd April 2011

Kidderminster is the home of the best mum in the world... my mum! I'm biased of course but mother's day is a great time to make a fuss and pamper the wonderful mums and mums-to-be in our lives.  I know, we shouldn't need one special day to remind us how great mums are. But of all the "hallmark" days I think that on this day we can put any cynicism to one side and jump in and celebrate mums!

The history of Mother's Day is centuries old and goes back to the times of ancient Greeks, who held festivities to honor Rhea, the mother of the gods. The early Christians celebrated the Mother's festival on the fourth Sunday of Lent to honor Mary, the mother of Christ. Interestingly, later on a religious order stretched the holiday to include all mothers, and named it as the Mothering Sunday. So it wasn't just invented by the card companies to make us spend our pennies!

I love treating people to reflexology and massage that has been given to them as a gift, people really appreciate being given this wonderful time to relax. Mums and mums-to be are so busy rushing around looking after us all that they often don't give themselves the pampering they deserve, so why not treat them?

Whatever you do for mother's day have a great one, and its a reminder to me that I shouldn't have to wait until mother's day to treat my mum!
