A popular alternative therapy, for many reflexology can promote relaxation, improve circulation, reduce pain, soothe tired feet, and encourage a feeling of overall wellbeing.
Clients report an obvious and lasting reduction in stress. Reflexology is recommended as a complementary therapy and should not replace medical treatment or to diagnose.
The main feelings from client comments is that the session is calming, comforting and relaxing. Many clients feel that they have drifted off to sleep during the treatment but usually although deeply relaxed they are still aware and not fully asleep.
Treating yourself to a one to one, personalised reflexology treatment can bring many benefits. Here are some of those benefits in the words of my clients.
"....I had the opportunity to experience reflexology with Jo. May I say it has been many years since I felt so relaxed and the release of overwhelming emotion... I would recommend this to anybody...." T.G.
Reflexology is also used for post-operative or palliative care. A study in the American Cancer Society journal found that one-third of cancer patients used reflexology as a complementary therapy. I worked as a volunteer therapist at The Mary Stevens Hospice in Stourbridge and was privileged to use reflexology to support the patients and their family.

At Breathe, a reflexology treatment is applied directly via the therapists hands, to apply pressure, stretch and movement. We work through the whole foot methodically. The reflexologist will work within your comfort zone throughout the treatment. Reflexology begins with a soothing, relaxing foot massage. The specialised reflexology massage follows as the therapist works around your reflex zones using thumb and finger pressure as well as massage techniques.
You can feel free to say if the pressure is too strong or too light for your comfort. The practitioner will actively adjust the pressure to suit you. Reflexology doesn't tickle as it is a firm pressure to the feet.
During the session you may feel different sensations in your feet and body, it may feel like a tingle or you may feel a slight pins and needles sensation. Sensitivity varies from person to person and from treatment to treatment.
Reflexology can be combined with other holistic therapies such as aromatherapy and hypnotherapy.
